Clap for front line

Hi all,

So last night at 8pm across Britain we stood outside our front doors and applauded frontline workers. I had heard about it and wondered if anyone down our road would be doing it.

At 8pm I looked out of the front door and sure enough every house I could see had people standing outside cheering and clapping. We could also hear plenty more going on all over town. It really was quite an experience to see and hear, and quite touching that so many people were acknowledging the courage of these people who are keeping this country going.

Online I had seen hashtags for “clap for carers”, and of course my applause included carers but extended to all NHS staff who are working through these dangerous times. It extended to people working in food shops, going above and beyond to keep us stocked with supplies. I truly despair at the reports I’ve heard of people verbally abusing check out staff for enforcing company policies to ensure the limited supplies are fairly distributed. Come on people, think about what’s going on. Shelve the greed and idiocy.

I have a few front line people in my family. My mother-in-law is a carer, and is still working. My Sarah’s colleagues at her food store if not told to self isolate by head office are carrying on. I know a number of people working for the NHS in one role or another, mostly through my visits for my knackered innards. We know plenty of other key workers who are still carrying on, doing what they can. And I’m sure everyone reading this post is either front line or knows people who are still working through this is. So let me take this opportunity to share my gratitude and admiration for each and every one of you.

Stay safe people
