Ah Sunday; a day to rest and relax. For me: Sundays are special, from the point of view that for the rest of the week I am busy working and rushing around sorting things out. A lot of extra Saturday work has been available lately with the company I work for, which I have been making the most of.
What with all of this extra work its really important to give myself time to recharge my batteries, to relax and unwind. This is important for anyone, but this act of self preservation is even more critical when you have something such as Crohn’s to contend with. I’ve learnt recently how delicate the human body can be, and how essential it is to take time to look after it.
So what’s my “routine” for my ideal Sunday? For work I usually get up at around half 5 in the morning. Being used to this routine and a naturally early riser, I’m often awake shortly after 5. This doesn’t change on a Sunday; I still wake up at the same time, and in a way I am pleased about this. There is some level of satisfaction from looking at the alarm clock and smiling knowing that I don’t have to leave the warm comfort of my duvet for a while. Having woken up I just enjoy lying in, thinking about how I am going to spend my sacred day off before eventually getting out of bed up and taking my time to get myself together.
Normally I see my grandparents for lunch, its a great time to catch up and spend time together. Today as a change I’m seeing my bestie’s: Adam and Sara for a roast. As you have probably guessed from other parts of my blog: I have a very good and healthy relationship with food; we get on very well. Therefore its probably not a surprise to hear that eating is a big part of my relaxation day as well!
Aside from indulging in cuisine and spending important time with friends and family, I am starting to make time to just put my feet up. I’m spending more time reading and writing, with the odd nap thrown in. These are all things I really enjoy doing and don’t necessarily get around to enjoying in the week.
I’m starting to get into incorporating some light exercise into these chill out days too; today I’m walking to my friend’s which is a nice gentle half an hour walk across town. In the coming week’s I’m going to get back into cycling on a Sunday afternoon. I know I have a fairly active exercise routine during the week with my kettle bell exercises; and these sessions are a little more intense. The idea of these Sunday exercises is more of a refreshing way to blow the cobwebs out and to enjoy being out and about. As the weather gets a little warmer and nicer I suspect I’ll be spending more time out enjoying the world.
