I’ve found out that May is Crohn’s awareness month; that being the case I have decided that I want to do something to raise awareness and hopefully a bit of money towards Crohn’s and Colitis UK. I was mulling over options, and looking around for inspiration when I got talking to someone I’ve just met called Laura. She also has Crohn’s and is studying to be a personal trainer. She is currently a boot camp, les mills – body attack and insanity instructor, so she knows fitness inside out. More importantly she understands how to run intensive exercise alongside Crohn’s. In short she’s quite an amazing person! We’ve spoken a lot about exercise, and she’s introduced me to a few challenges that I love. Naturally the idea of an exercise-based challenge for Crohn’s month caught her attention. Over dinner we sketched out a plan (mainly led by Laura) to do some form of exercise for 15 minutes, every single day of the month.
We will change the exercise each day and include press-ups, crunches, squats, burpees etc. I will start off doing the exercise of the day when the timer starts, do as many as I can, then when I can’t do any more I will tag Laura to carry on. When she can’t do any more she’ll tag me, and so on until the 15 minutes are up. This of course will involve us meeting up daily, or when we can’t meet up we will try and do this via skype, which will be interesting! Laura’s agreed to plan out the month’s routine for us both, using her training and experience.
So there is the rough plan that we have; I’m really looking forward to this! As we get closer we will be putting together a JustGiving page for anyone who is able to donate towards Crohn’s and Colitis UK to show their support. We will also be posting updates on how we are getting on throughout the month, and sharing the plan as and when it’s put together.
