One week to go and first Iron infusion

Evening all!

Just a quick note as an update: as the title gives away its a week to the day until said operation. Still feeling calm and positive about it all. I think that talking so much about it to friends and family, and having the big goals mentioned in my previous post have helped enormously. That and having a positive outlook on things!!

Being slightly anaemic I have been advised to take these iron infusions. The anaemia has been a long standing resident here; and that being the case it has never been seen as so much of a problem. The iron count is not worryingly low either, just slightly. That said: in the run up to the operation the doctors have said that these are a must.

The infusion was quick and straight forward which was great! I just had to go in, take a seat, a really friendly chatty nurse came over, prepared what she needed. The actual infusion was just a syringe of some kind of dark liquid, which was then injected into the arm. Ten minutes of relaxed, interesting chat later and we were all done. Only things I noticed were a slightly funny taste in the mouth which lasted a really short space of time. Obviously there was a slight scratch from the needle but other than that it was a really straight forward procedure.

So now I just have two more of these this week, a meeting with the nurse on Wednesday, then its the preparation for the op itself. Then the long road of recovery, and all of the fun stuff I’ve got lined up beyond that.

Thanks again for reading,

KBO
